Acupuncture for Depression
Such conditions including depressive neurosis and depression following stroke has been documented repeatedly in controlled studies. In the treatment of depression, acupuncture has been found to be as effective as amitriptyline but with fewer side-effects. Furthermore, in trials of schizophrenia treatment, acupuncture can have a better effect than chlorpromazine drug therapy.

Acupuncture for Drug Addiction
Studies, particularlty on Class A drug addiction have specifically showed that acupuncture raises endorphin levels thus resulting in successful suppression of withdrawal symptoms; it is also thus been successfully used for substance abuse treatment.

Acupuncture for Smoking
Auricular acupuncture in particular showed strong evidence where 70% of smokers either abstained totally from smoking or reduced the amount of consumption by half.

Acupuncture for Alcoholism
Acupuncture reduces the need for alcohol in alcohol-addicted patients.
